Conservative MP Sir David Amess has died after being stabbed at his monthly surgery in his constituency surgery on Friday.

One person has been arrested in connection with the attack.

Quoting the Essex Police, a BBC report said that cops were called to reports of a stabbing in Leigh-on-Sea at 12.05pm. Cops recovered one knife from the scene of the crime.

Former Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith tweeted, “My thoughts are with David Amess MP and his family at this awful time. Praying for a full recovery following this appalling, shocking news. This angry, violent behaviour cannot be tolerated in politics or any other walk of life…”

Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer said, “Horrific and deeply shocking news. Thinking of David, his family and his staff.”

Conservative MP Michael Fabricant tweeted, “David Amess is one of the most lovely, uncontentious, caring MPs in Parliament. This is just awful.”

The motive behind the crime is not clear. The monthly surgery is when an MP interacts with his constituents regarding their problems.

Amess had announced about his next surgery on 12 October on Twitter. “My next constituency surgery will be taking place on Friday 15th October at Belfairs Methodist Church, 251 Eastwood Road North, Leigh-on-Sea, SS9 4NG. To book an appointment please email amessd@parliament.uk or call 020 7219 3452,” he had tweeted.

According to a report by Sky News, the 69-year-old ruling party politician was receiving treatment at the scene. An air ambulance too has been made available.
