Breaking silence on the Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje-Lalit Modi controversy, the BJP today backed Vasundhara Raje and ruled out her resignation or that of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on the Lalit Modi row. On the other hand, the Congress has threatened to disrupt the Monsoon session of Parliament if they (Raje and Swaraj) do not resign.
Earlier today, Raje cancelled her visit to Anandpur Sahib in Punjab where she would have met BJP president Amit Shah and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Addressing the media at the BJP headquarters, BJP Spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi rejected the demands for resignation of the two top leaders.
Documents released by Lalit Modi’s lawyer show that Vasundhara Raje supported Lalit Modi’s immigration application to the UK in 2011. According to reports, Raje was a secret witness in Modi’s immigration documents.
On Monday, Lalit Modi’s lawyer claimed in during a press conference that Modi had followed all legal procedures to acquire his travel documents.
Sushma Swaraj has been in the eye of storm after it was revealed that she had allegedly committed an act of conflict of interest by requesting the British authorities to issue travel documents to Modi, who was wanted by the Enforcement Directorate in multi-crore scandal.
