The Indian cricket board has invited applications for the roles of Head Coach, Batting Coach Fielding Coach and Bowling Coach along with the job for Head Sports Science/Medicine with National Cricket Academy. The requirement stated for the Head Coach of Team India shows that the job is tailor-made for Rahul Dravid.

All these roles are for Team India (Senior Men) except the role for Head Sports Science/Medicine, which is for the the National Cricket Academy.

The BCCI said in a statement that applications for the position of Head Coach (Team India – Senior Men) ‘should be submitted by 5 PM on October 26, 2021 at headcoach@bcci.tv.’

There have been speculations that former India batsman Rahul Dravid would be offered the role to replace Ravi Shashtri immediately after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup.

Requirement for this role say that candidates must have ‘played minimum of 30 Test Matches or 50 ODI’s; or Head Coach of a full member Test Playing Nation, for a minimum period of 2 years; or Head Coach of an Associate member /IPL Team or Equivalent International Leagues/First Class Teams/ National A teams, for a minimum period of 3 years; or Should have BCCI Level 3 Certification or equivalent.’

Dravid appears to fit the role perfectly as he has been in charge of India A and Under-19 teams for the last six years. He’s been credited with producing talents such as Rishabh Pant, Avesh Khan, Prithvi Shaw, Hanuma Vihari, and Shubman Gill among others.

According to the last requirement of the job, the candidate must be ‘below 60 years of age at the time of appointment.’ Shastri would be turning 60 in May next year.
