Aam Aadmi Party on Monday launched a blistering attack against the city top cop, BS Bassi, accusing him of acting like an “unofficial spokesperson” of BJP.

Responding to Bassi’s letter to the Delhi government advising it to include moral education for boys and girls in colleges, the party said the government did not need to learn values from the police whose personnel had a bad record in this regard.

“The Delhi Police is acting like the frontal organisation of the BJP and its Commissioner is acting like its unofficial spokesperson. Is he (Bassi) thinking about the gains post-retirement? Such type of a statement against a popularly elected government does not suit him and I don’t think even his service rules permit that,” AAP’s Delhi convener Dilip Pandey was quoted by news agency PTI.

“Their personnel raped a woman at a gunpoint, they put hot boiling oil on vendors who refuse to pay bribe, to save a cop taking bribe the Delhi Police went up to High Court …they should not give us moral science lectures,” he alleged.

Speaking to a news channel, Bassi had mocked Delhi chief minister by calling his attacks against the police ‘laughable’ and not ‘worth commenting.’

Following the rise in rape incidents against minors in the capital, Kejriwal had asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hand over the control of Delhi police for at least one year.

The party also targeted the Delhi Police over a survey by a private agency which claimed it to be “corrupt”.

“The crime rate has increased in Delhi. We have been saying that give the Delhi Police to us for a year. If you are not satisfied with it then take it back. Instead of targeting AAP the police should focus on curbing the crime” Pandey said.
