Banks across India will only serve senior citizens on Saturday, reported NDTV adding that all banks will remain closed on Sunday.
Rajiv Rishi, the head of the Indian Bank Association, said, “across the country, there is visibly less rush.” He added that tomorrow will be used to clear pending work.
Banks have been experiencing long queues with ordinary public complaining of no cash even after hours of wait.
The Centre’s Narendra Modi government had asked bank to function on Saturday and Sunday.
More than 55 people have already died due to demonetisation related stress.
Chaotic scenes are still visible at banks and ATMs as people queued up for hours to get cash to meet their daily expenses even as bank branches and cash vending machines struggled to manage the rush.
