Former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had to be taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences after the veteran BJP leader complained of breathing problems. He’s believed to have been shifted to the ICU of the Cardio-Neuro center of the reputed Delhi hospital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan have visited Jaitley at the AIIMS. Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari, BJP veterans Ravi Shankar Prasad and JP Nadda too were among those who visited the AIIMS.

A statement from the hospital, according to NDTV, said, “Shri Arun Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS today morning. He is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of doctors. At present, he is haemodynamically stable.”

A report by India Today said that Jaitley may be kept under observation for the next 2-3 days. The office India’s Vice President, Venkaiah Naidu, said that the doctors informed the Vice President that Arun Jaitley was responding to the treatment and his condition was stable. This was after Naidu visited Jaitley at the hospital.

66-year-old Jaitley did not contest this year’s Lok Sabha polls owing to poor health and also declined to accept any ministerial responsibilities. He held several key ministries including Finance and Defence portfolios during Modi’s first term as Prime Minister.

Jaitley had undergone a successful kidney transplant in March 2017.

The news of Jaitley’s deteriorating health comes just days after the veteran BJP leader and former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj passed away after suffering a massive cardiac arrest. She was 67.
