Activist Anna Hazare has changed his decision to sit on fast from Saturday in support of farmers after meeting with former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Widely perceived to be a supporter of the RSS, Hazare also supported the BJP government on the controversial Farm Laws, reported NDTV.

He told reporters, “I’ve been leading agitations for many years on many social issues. I’ve been raising the issue of farmers’ suicides for three years because they don’t receive an adequate price for their crops.”

He said the government had accepted his 15-point demand on the implementation of the recommendations made by the Swaminathan Committee. “Now that the central government has decided to work on my 15-point demand, I’ve decided to cancel my fast, scheduled for tomorrow.”

Hazare was instrumental in kickstarting Arvind Kejriwal’s political career after he staged protests in the national capital between 2011 and 2012 against the Congress-led UPA government.

The 83-year-old activist has been quiet against the Centre’s Narendra Modi government, prompting many to conclude that he had a soft spot for the RSS, which had allegedly sponsored India Against Corruption movement led by him and Kejriwal.
