Anil Ambani’s Reliance serves Rs 5000-crore defamation notice against AAP MP Sanjay Singh

Anil Ambani’s Reliance Group has served a defamation notice to AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh for his statements made in a press conference 13 February, 2018. Singh had reportedly raised questions regarding the purchase of 36 Rafale jets from France by the government in a Rs 56,000 crore inter-governmental deal between India and France.

A defiant Singh said that ‘any Ambani or Adani’ could not ‘suppress the coice of the common man.’

He said, “Any Ambani or Adani cannot suppress the voice of the common man. The defamation case is not the answer. The answers have to be given.”

Singh was elected the Rajya Sabha earlier this year. In his maiden speech, he had extensively spoken about the questionable Rafale deal between India and France by the Centre’s Narendra Modi government.

The defamation notice served through Nanavati Associates legal firm, Singh has been asked to withdraw his comments about Anil Ambani’s Reliance group by holding a fresh press conference in a prominent manner. Singh was also asked to issue an unqualified apology for his comments made about Anil Ambani’s Reliance group.

The defamation notice said, “In the circumstances, we, under the instructions of our client, call upon you to (a) immediately withdraw an apologise for the statement made in the ‘press briefing’; (b) make a fresh press briefing in a prominent manner to ensure a clear unambiguous and unqualified retraction and apology for the ‘press briefing’ within 72 hours from the receipt of this notice. ”
