Alka Lamba disqualified from Delhi assembly, says Speaker Ram Niwas Goel

Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel on Thursday said that Alka Lamba had been disqualified from the Delhi Assembly under the anti-defection law. Her disqualification will be effective from 6 September, when she announced her disassociation from the Aam Aadmi Party on Twitter.

In his order, Goel said, “That Ms Alka Lamba, the Respondent in this case, an elected Member of the Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, elected from Chandni Chowk(Assembly Constituency No. 20) has become subject to disqualification under Paragraph 2 (1) (a) of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution. That the disqualification of the said Ms Alka Lamba takes effect from 06.09.2019.”

Reacting to her disqualification, Lamba wrote on Twitter, “My journey with the AAP ended here.” She said that the arrogance and power of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wouldn’t last long.

The decision to disqualify Lamba was reportedly taken on the complaint of AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj, who took to Twitter on Wednesday to write, “Alka Lamba is scared today. She claimed her Twitter resignation from AAP should not be taken seriously After announcing her Congress joining with Sonia Gandhi, she claims everything was a lie Can such people be trusted for anything ? Is there any value of their announcements ?”

Lamba had said that she resigned on Twitter because Kejriwal had dared her to do so on the microblogging site. According to her, Kejriwal threatened the Speaker and told him that he may lose his ticket if he did not disqualify Lamba.
