According to local officials, Macron’s attacker was later admitted to a psychiatric hospital
In June this year, a video of Macron being slapped by a member of the public had gone viral. In the video, Macron could be seen approaching people to greet them when a man stunned him by slapping in his face hard. Slogans such as Down with Macron-ism were also heard in the background.
His attacker, identified as 28-year-old Damien Tarel was later given a four-month prison sentence. He had also received an additional 14-month suspended sentence for the offence.
Tarel, according to Sky News, was subsequently banned from ever holding public office and from owning weapons for five years.
