Actor Mallika Rajput has quit the BJP accusing the saffron party of protecting the rapists and communalising the safety of women in India.
The video of Rajput, who shot to fame from Bollywood film Revolver Rani, slamming her own party has gone viral on social media platforms. In the video, Rajput is heard saying, “I do not wish to be a part of the party, which is continuously trying to protect the rapists. The party (BJP) should have demanded the fast track justice to the rape victim and hanging of the rapists. But this party has been trying to make the issue Hindu-Muslim. I, therefore, resign from this party.”
Rajput hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district and had joined the BJP just before the 2017 assembly elections. Keshav Prasad Maurya, now one of the state’s deputy chief ministers, had welcomed her entry in the BJP at a public event.
UNI PhotoRajput has previously objected to being called as an actor adding that she was essentially a writer, who’s written books and sets of poems.
The BJP has been at the receiving end for its dubious role in protecting the rapists of the 8-year-old child in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua and its MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the alleged rape of an 18-year-old girl in Unnao. Both these cases have caused international outcry.
