Director Abhishek Kapoor has reportedly sent a legal notice to Saif Ali Khan’s daughter, Sara Ali Khan, demanding damages worth Rs 5 crore for allegedly not honouring the terms of her contract. The case has reportedly been filed by Guy In The Sky Productions Pvt Ltd (company owned by Kapoor).
His plea was heard by a vacation bench of Justice S J Kathawalla and the court posted the matter for a hearing on Friday, reported website India.com. The new controversy comes fate the fate of Kedarnath faced uncertainty over legal tussles between Kapoor and Prerna Aroraa of KriArj Entertainment (the film’s producer). Kapoor’s Guy In The Sky Pictures was originally making the movie with KriArj Entertainment, but they parted ways. Later, Ronnie Screwvala and his creative production house RSVP joined hands with Kapoor. This is their second collaboration after Kai Po Che!
As per several media reports, Kapoor said that Sara had earlier given a nod to be available on all the dates throughout the shoot. But when the makers informed her that the shooting of Kedarnath will go till May to 5 July, her agent said that she won’t be available in June as she’ll start filming for Ranveer Singh’s Simmba.
Now, Kapoor’s company has allegedly sought the court to look into the matter and let her know that she can’t start any other film until she finishes Kedarnath. In fact, Abhishek has also asked HC to ask Sara to pay Rs 5 crore for breaching the contract and making damages.
Sara and her father Saif Ali Khan had visited Kapoor’s office on Wednesday in a bid to resolve the issue. People familiar with this matter said that Sara could not reject the offer of a lead role when Karan Johar offer her for Simmba since there was complete uncertainty surrounding Kedarnath because of the legal battles between Kapoor and Aroraa.
24-year-old Sara stars in the film opposite Sushant Singh Rajput. In both her photos, released, she can be seen wearing salwar-kameez with bright blue umbrella on a sunny day in the green mountains of Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath.
Kedarnath is directed by Abhishek Kapoor, who wrapped up its month-long first schedule before shifting to Mumbai recently.
Talking about his experience on filming the movie in the mountains, Abhishek said it was one of a kind shoot.
