Aam Aadmi Party MLA Surinder Singh ‘Commando’ landed in a controversy on Wednesday when he was arrested for beating an on-duty New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) employee.
An FIR was registered against Singh at the Tughlaq Road police station. The incident allegedly occurred at 6.15 pm on Tuesday when Singh intervened in a routine checking drive by NDMC employees in the area.
“Surinder Singh’s car reached the spot when Mukesh along with 10-12 NDMC employees was in the process of sanitising the footpath and roadside area occupied by the hawkers,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Singh said.
Singh punched Mukesh in the face when he continued with his job despite the MLA asking him to stop the drive against hawkers,” the official said.
The MLA has also been accused of making casteist remarks against the NDMC employee.
“On the complaint of NDMC sanitary inspector RJ Meena, we have filed a case against Surinder Singh,” said the official.
The MLA has been booked under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, an amendment for which was passed recently in the Lok Sabha, and the Indian Penal Code.
