At least eleven people have died after a 50-year-old building in Thane collapsed on Monday night. Many others could still be trapped inside the debris.

The three-storeyed Krishna Niwas building, which had been served a notice by the municipal corporation to be vacated earlier this year, housed five families.

Thane Collector Ashwini Joshi and Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde rushed to the spot to oversee relief operations.

The fire brigade, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and other agencies are engaged in rescue work at the building site.
