A three-year-old in Bengaluru has been taken to hospital after allegedly being assaulted by a security guard at her posh private school in Indira Nagar area.
Medical tests are being conducted to determine whether she was sexually assaulted. The guard has now been arrested.
School officials has so far denied that the assualt took place in the school campus though the guard has been an employee for eight years. His own daughter is a student at the school in the posh Indira Nagar neighbourhood.
The 42-year-old school where the three-year-old studies was open today despite protestors gathering outside this morning. School officials maintain that the CCTV footage they have handed over to the police reveal nothing incriminating.
A national debate on safety guidelines in schools had been triggered last year after a series of cases of young girls being sexually assaulted appeared.
Last year, Bengaluru and one of its private schools were in news for another bad reason. A 7-year-old was molested by one of the members of the staff in the school campus.
After the initial anger and protest, the school was temporarily shutdown. There were calls for strict action against the school. The government stepped in and issued new rules making it compulsory to have CCTV cameras along with a thorough background verification of staff and female attendants in school buses.
