As floods ravage many parts of the country, 21 people are reported to have died due to a landslide in the north-eastern state of Manipur. The landslide is being owed to extremely stormy weather in the state since the past few days.
Initial investigations have revealed that the landslide has mainly affected areas near the Myanmar border in Khenjoy. Incessant rainfall has caused a flood situation in major parts of the state. Rivers flowing through the state have also crossed the danger level.
Earlier in the day, the state government had issued a high alert and had begun evacuating those stranded because of the floods.
Meanwhile, the state has also sent various special teams to the landslide-affected spots in order to carry out rescue efforts.
The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals and the search operation process has started. Relief operations, however, are being carried out at a slow rate since Manipur is currently cut off from neighbouring states due to the floods.
