17 killed, 33 injured as speeding luxury bus collides with two stationary cars on Mumbai-Pune Expressway

Police in Maharashtra say that a at least 17 persons were killed and 33 injured when a luxury bus rammed into two cars near Shedung on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway early Sunday morning.

The speeding bus, after colliding with two cars skid off the road before falling into a farm around 15 feet below the highway.

Among killed are 10 women, 6 men and an eight-month-old infant, reported Times of India. The private luxury bus in which they were travelling from Satara to Mumbai first hit two stationary cars — a Swift and an Innova — parked on the roadside.

The driver of a swift desire car, according to ANI, was changing a punctured tyre and an Innova stopped to help him.

The injured were immediately rushed to the MGM hospital in Panvel. The police say that the death toll may go up as many were critically injured.
