A married GP in Scotland was jailed for four years after he was convicted for raping a woman who he met on Tinder. The 39-year-old GP, identified as Manesh Gill, has also been placed on the sex offenders’ list by the authorities. His victim has not been identified for legal reasons. However, the judge showered praises on the woman for her courage and determination to bring Gill to justice.
Who Is Married Manesh Gill?
Gill, a married doctor and father of three children, is a practicing GP in Edinburgh. He posed as ‘Mike’ on Tinder to meet the woman in question. He invited the woman to a hotel in Stirling where he raped her. Once inside the hotel, they had drinks until the woman lapsed in and out of consciousness.
Gill lured the woman to come to his room saying that public toilets were out of order.
He sexually attacked the woman, who was incapable of controlling her movements or providing consent.
The woman told the court, “He was on top of me. I was trying to push him off. I couldn’t.
“I just felt like my whole body was stuck to the bed. He was having sex with me. I wanted to go home. I felt as if I couldn’t move. I couldn’t do anything.”
The High Court in Edinburgh on Wednesday convicted Gill for rape before sentencing him to four years in jail today.
Gill said that he was a responsible medic, but the judge slammed him for breaking the trust of a young woman.
Scotland’s procurator fiscal for high court sexual offences, Fraser Gibson, told Sky News, “Manesh Gill abused the trust of a young woman in the most heinous way. His criminal behaviour has been ended by today’s sentence.”
Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Inspector Forbes Wilson, of Police Scotland’s public protection unit, said that the conviction and sentencing of Gill sent a powerful message to ‘anyone found guilty of sexual offences, you will be brought to justice.’
“Gill must now face the consequences for his horrific behaviour,” Wilson said.
