Veteran music director Ravindra Jain, 71, dead

Veteran music director Ravindra Jain, known for composing soulful music for films and popular television show Ramayan passed away, aged 71.

Jain had been admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai after he suffered problems in his kidney due to urinary infection.

He was shifted from Wockhardt Hospital in Nagpur on 7 October to Mumbai by a chartered air ambulance for treatment at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra. He was on ventilator and put on dialysis.

Jain was in Nagpur for a concert on Sunday, but could not participate because of his health. His family members, including wife Divya and brother Manindra, were by his side when his end came.

He also composed music for hit films like Chor Machaye Shor, Geet Gaata Chal, Chitchor and Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se.

Jain was given a big break by Raj Kapoor, for whom he composed many super hit songs in movies such as Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Do Jasoos, and Heena, which was directed by Randhir Kapoor.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Jain widely composed music for many mythological movies and television serials. Recently, he composed music for Rajshri Production’s Vivaah starring Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao.
