Police in Borivali area of Mumbai arrested television actor Sai Ballal on Thursday for harassing a 58-year-old television actress after she accused him of sending her lewd messages, including pornographic clips.
Ballal portrays Kamalnarayan Rajvanshi in Udaan, a TV soap produced by Mahesh Bhatt about bonded labour in an Indian village.
The actress alleged in her complaint on Thursday that Ballal had first harassed her in April.
Ballal started sending the actress pornographic videos via WhatsApp and harassed her on the sets. The woman also alleges that Ballal made sexual advances towards her and molested her on numerous occasions.
The woman says that when she was fed up, she approached superiors in the production house. However, the producers removed her from the show and did not listen to her complaints, an officer said.
The Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) refused to take action following another complaint while dismissing it as a criminal matter. The woman said she was removed from the show because Ballal had an influence over the producers.
Meanwhile, Ballal has been booked under Section 354-A (sexual harassment) and 354-B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe her) of the IPC and section 67-A of the IT Act.
