Samajwadi Party leader Firoz Khan in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal has courted a controversy by making objectionable comments about actress-turned-politician Jaya Prada after the BJP fielded her as its candidate from Rampur against Azam Khan.
News agency ANI shared the video of Firoz Khan on Twitter, where the SP politician is seen making sexist comments about the actress saying her arrival will make Rampur’s evenings colourful. He said, “The other day I was travelling in a bus when I saw her convoy pass through. I got down from the bus with the hope that she may entertain us with her dance. Now evenings in Rampur will become very colourful.”
He did not stop here. Firoz Khan said that while people of Rampur will vote for Azam Khan, they will not leave any stone unturned in seeking fun from Jaya Prada’s presence in the parliamentary constituency.
He said that voters in Rampur will ask Jaya Prada to tie ghoongroo in her ankles and perform a dance for them. He said, “So evenings in Rampur are going to be very colourful. I fear that people from my constituency too may travel to Rampur to entertain themselves in the evenings.
Khan added, “I don’t know what this woman meant when she said she will become a gundi (goon). “We have not issued any certificates of decency to you. If you are a gundi, you will always remain so. May God forgive me, but the kind of women the BJP has fielded in this year’s elections, commenting about them may cause trouble for me by the Election Commission. If someone identifies herself as a goon or she chooses dancing as her profession, that’s their decision. I don’t want to comment on that.”
Jaya Prada had joined the BJP after severing ties with the Samajwadi Party earlier this week, A day later, the BJP fielded her as its candidate against Azam Khan from Rampur.
