Singer Sona Mohapatra has lashed out at Bollywood superstar Salman Khan for his comments against Priyanka Chopra after she quit Bharat, which is set to release on 6 June coinciding Eid. Sona termed Salman a ‘poster child of toxic masculinity,’ and called his comments a ‘low brow dig.’
When asked to react to Priyanka quitting the film during the shooting, Salman had reportedly said that it was embarrassing that she had left the ‘biggest film of her career’ to get married. Salman had gone on to say that ‘usually people leave their husbands for this.’
Reacting to Salman’s comments, Sona said, “Cus @priyankachopra has better things to do in life, real men to hang out with & more importantly, girls to inspire with her journey.”

In her subsequent tweet, Sona wrote, “A showcase & poster child of toxic masculinity. Low brow dig at not only a woman who was not in the room but a disgusting disregard & contempt for the woman & colleague sitting next to him in the same room. Unless we call out such serial bad behaviour, nothing changes #India.”

When a user wrote that Priyanka had clearly moved on and settled down in life and it was time for Salman to move on too, Sona wrote, “Trying telling that to his fans who shadow his toxicity & are calling her derogatory names on my timeline. They meme her 10 year age gap with her husband but conveniently forget that their idol is close to 20 years older than her. Grow up, you fools, I say to them.”

Breaking his silence on Priyanka’s exit from Bharat, Salman had said last year that the Quantico star had called his sister Arpita 1,000 times to act opposite him in a movie. Speaking to a leading newspaper, the Dabangg actor had said, “It must have been very difficult for her to make this decision because she was very keen to work on this project. She (Priyanka) has called up Arpita a thousand times, saying, ‘I want to work with Salman’. She has even called up Ali (Abbas Zafar, director) and told him, ‘See if you can get me something in this film’.”
In Bharat, Salman will be seen alongside Katrina Kaif, who replaced Priyanka, Disha Patani, Tabu, Nora Fatehi, and Jacky Shroff among others.
