Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries on Friday reported its financial performance for the quarter ending 30 June with the company’s consolidated revenue growing by 22.1 percent to Rs 172,956 crore or $ 25.1 billion. The company’s overall profit also registered a growth of Rs 9,036 crore, which is an increase of 2.4 % compared to the same quarter last year. This is the first result of a full quarter since Shloka Mehta became the daughter-in-law of Mukesh and Nita Ambani.
Reacting to the good news, Mukesh Ambani said, “Our first-quarter earnings were strong despite the weak global macroeconomic environment and challenging hydrocarbon market conditions. Our downstream businesses delivered resilient performance in an environment of slower demand growth and incremental supplies. The performance reflects the benefits of deep refining and petrochemicals integration, chain economics and feedstock flexibility.”
This wasn’t the only good news for the Ambanis. Their flagship company Reliance Jio also dislodged rival Bharti Airtel to become India’s second-largest telecom operator on Friday.
Shloka, the daughter of billionaire diamond merchant Russel Mehta, had married her boyfriend of many years, Akash Ambani, in a lavish ceremony on 9 March this year. Her wedding was attended by the who’s who of global politics, sports, entertainment, and business. Notable among them were former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, Samsung vice-chairman Jay Y Lee, International Olympic Committee executive board member Christophe De Kepper, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Bollywood megastar Aamir Khan along with a host of Bollywood bigwigs. The guest list also included many prominent government ministers both from India and counties around the world.
The Ambanis had made a huge deal of Shloka Mehta’s first birthday as their daughter-in-law last week when they released a special video with Mukesh Ambani wishing to be a grandfather by the time his bahu celebrates her next birthday. Shloka’s brother-in-law Anant Ambani too had hoped that he becomes a kaka (Uncle) soon. However, it was husband Akash Ambani’s wink that had prompted many to speculate if Shloka was already pregnant.
Shloka has become a talk of the town these days with media spotlight falling on the daughter-in-law of India’s richest family. Paparazzi had followed every step of Shloka when she made a rare public appearance at the retirement bash of former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh.
