Sexual harassment case: Singer Mika Singh released, to be produced in UAE court today


Popular Indian singer Mika Singh was arrested in Abu Dhabi in the UAE on Thursday for allegedly sending objectionable photos to a teenage model. A 17-year-old Brazilian model has accused Mika of sending ‘indecent photos’ with promising her a role in a Bollywood movie.

Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri had confirmed the news to local newspaper Khaleej Times, “He is under arrest. Our team is there. We are working to secure his release.”

News agency ANI quoted Suri as saying that Mika was released following the Indian embassy’s intervention 11.30 pm. “He will be produced before a court today,” Suri told the news agency.

The singer, known for several hit songs such as Subha Hone Na De and Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag was arrested from Bur Dubai at 3 AM on Thursday morning. He was believed to have been kept at Muraqqabaat police station.

The singer was in Dubai to perform at Masala Awards ceremony held at Fort Island, Madinat Jumeirah on Tuesday. He had later posted a video of his meeting with Sohail Galadari of Galadari Brothers, who publish Khaleej Times. While informing his fans about his meeting he was also seen playing the Simmba track Ladki Aaankh Mare, which has been remixed in his voice.

After arriving in Dubai, Mika had taken to Instagram to write, “Hey Dubai.. I’m in your city and it’s the 1st time I’m here to attend the most popular awards the Masala Awards. See you tonight!”
