Saumya Tandon-starrer TV series Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain has landed itself in huge trouble after the Election Commission of India sent the makers of the programme a show cause notice for poll code violations.
Janta Ka Reporter had exclusively reported how the popular comedy show had used its programme to push the BJP’s agenda even after the Model Code of Conduct had come into force.
The show’s screenwriter Raghuvir Shekhawat told an entertainment website that the producers had indeed received the notice and they will be responding soon to the national poll body.
Raghuvir, according to Pinkvilla website, confirmed this in a recent conversation with Satyam Tripathy at Vartalap, which was a screen writers association event held in Mumbai . Raghuvir said, “We didn’t mention any opposition party’s name, neither did we target any party. Everything was done in a limited way. We only promoted Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and the man behind the cause, that’s it.”
The Maharashtra unit of the Congress had approached the Election Commission seeking a ban on Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain and two other Zee TV programmes after they were found to be praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government’s flagship schemes. The Congress argued that the channels owned by BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Chandra had violated the Model Code of Conduct.
When asked, Saumya, who is currently on maternity leave, had said that she had not yet resumed work and ‘that’s why the channel will be a better entity to answer this question.’
The channel, &TV, had not made any statement after being caught indulging in unethical means to push the BJP’s agenda.
As reported by Janta Ka Reporter, two programmes aired on Zee Media-owned channels hailed key government schemes of the Narendra Modi government such as Ujjwala Gas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Mudra Yojana.
