Rishi Sunak, whose resignation as British Chancellor led to the collapse of Boris Johnson’s government last week, has decided to put his name forward to be the next Leader of The Conservative Party. If successful, he would become the next prime minister of the United Kingdom. However, his bid to become the first British PM of Indian origin has faced a serious setback after an old BBC video showed Sunak making a spectacular confession on not having any friends from ‘working class.’
In the viral video, Sunak can be seen saying, “I have friends who are aristocrats, friends who are upper class and friends who are working class….well not WORKING CLASS!”

The confession is extremely damaging given the pathetic state of the UK economy which Sunak presided for more than two years. The UK is going through its worst-ever cost of living crisis with inflation reaching alarmingly high. Many believe that Sunak was simply not able to understand the sufferings of ordianry people because of his upbringing as a wealthy individual.

Last week, Sunak had resigned from the cabinet headed by Johnson as he wrote a strongly-worded letter to the prime minister. His resignation had just moments after Health Secretary Sajid Javid, Sunak’s previous boss, resigned demanding Johnson’s ouster as prime minister.

Johnson later announced his resignation prompting the Conservative Party to choose a new leader, who would succeed him as the country’s prime minister.

Many other Conservative MPs have put their names forward to become the next prime minister of the country. They include Sajid Javid, Liz Truss, Rehman Chishti, Penny Mordaunt and Nadhim Zahawi among others.
