In a huge relief to Kangana Ranaut, the Bombay High Court on Friday quashed the demolition notice by the Mumbai civic body, the BMC and appointed a valuer to determine the loss caused to the actor. The high court Bench comprising Justices SJ Kathawalla and RI Chagla termed the action by the BMC ‘malice.’ It, however, declined to issue an order on the aspect of ‘malice.’

The court allowed Kangana to take steps to make her property habitable, but this has to be in compliance with the approved plan. The BMC, according to the Bar and Bench website, has been directed to decide on Kangana’s application within four weeks as and when she submits and application.

The court ruled that there was no unauthorised construction by Kangana at her property, adding that it was only existing work as opposed to illegal alterations. The high court bench, however, directed Kangana to restrain herself in airing her views against the government.

Reacting to the high court’s order, Kangana tweeted, “When individual stands against the government and wins, it’s not the victory of the individual but it’s the victory of the democracy. Thank you everyone who gave me courage and thanks to those who laughed at my broken dreams. Its only cause you play a villain so I can be a HERO.”

The court had reserved its verdict on 5 October. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar is likely to discuss the high court order with the BMC legal team. “What we did was according to municipal rules. I haven’t seen court order, will go through it,” she was quoted as saying.

It’s not clear whether the BMC will challenge the order in the Supreme Court.
