Indian cricket team’s head coach Ravi Shastri became a topic of intense discussion on social media on Monday, moments after Virat Kohli-led team pulled off a historic win against Australia in the Adelaide Test by 31 runs.

India achieved this feat after a gap of 10 years against the hosts. The Monday’s win was also the tourists’ sixth Test win in Australia ever. Chesteshwar Pujara was adjudged Man Of The Match for his superb knocks of 123 and 71 runs in both the innings respectively.

However, more than the players, social media platforms exploded because of Ravi Shastri’s obscene comments made on a Live TV on the rights holding broadcast channel. Shastri was in conversation with the experts in the studio, where former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was also present. Gavaskar reminded him about the team’s tagline for the series ‘Chhodna mat (Don’t spare).”

To which Shstri replied, “I just said this in Hindi Sunny (Sunil Gavaskar) a little while ago. Bilhul chhodenge nahi lekin thodi der keliye wahan goti moon mein tha(We will not spare them at all but we had balls in our mouth for a short time there)”

No sooner had the video been broadcast, social media users exploded with comments ranging from praises for Shastri to criticism for obscene comments. Here are some of the social media reactions:
