Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on Monday had to be admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after she complained of breathing problems. She was admitted to the hospital at around 1.30 AM on Monday.
“She is critical and in ICU,” News18 website quoted a hospital insider as saying. However, Rachana Shah, the niece of Lata Mangeshkar, was quoted as saying, “Lata didi suffered from a viral chest infection so we got her to the hospital. But now, she is on a path of recovery. Thank you for your concern.” –
Mangeshkar, who turned 90 on 28 September, has sung more than 1,000 songs in Hindi alone. The Indian government had conferred the country’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, on her in 2001.
On Sunday, the singer had tweeted extending her good wishes to her niece and actress Padmini Kolhapure for her upcoming film Panipat. Her tweet had read, “Namaskar. Meri bhaanji Padmini Kolhapure ek bahut acchi kalakar hai aur ab woh Panipat is film mein Gopika bai ka kirdaar nibha rahi hai. Main Padmini ko aashirwad deti hun aur Ashutosh aur unki team ko shubhkaamanayein deti hun. (My niece is a very good actress and now she is playing the character of Gopika Bai in Panipat. I give my blessings to Padmini and best wishes to Asutosh and his team.)”
