Senior BJP leader in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday posted a controversial tweet seemingly questioning the patriotism of Congress President Rahul Gandhi since he was born to a ‘foreigner’ mother. Kailash Vijayvargiya posted the tweet with hashtag #SaturdayMotivation.
His tweet, posted in Hindi, read, “Videshi stri se utpann santaan kabhi desh hit aur rashtra prem ka anugaami nahi ho sakta (Those born to foreigner women can never be the proponent of patriotism).”
Vajayvargiya’s tweet evoked angry reactions from social media users, who slammed him for taking to the public discourse to a new low in the wake of his party’s defeat at the hands of the Congress in Madhya Pradesh.

ROLE OF WOMEN!
Women under representation in politics remains; but, anti-women comments by BJP leaders like Kailash Vijayvargiya, Gyan Dev Ahuja and Brijmohan Agarwal–in MP, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh–were responsible for women voting, more than men in Congress’ favour.— Amaresh Misra (@AmareshMisraFC) December 15, 2018
Faced with public outrage, the former Madhya Pradesh minister deleted his tweet, but by then, this had been shared by nearly one thousand users and liked by over two thousands of them.
The BJP had recently suffered electoral defeats in Madhya Pradesh after ruling the state for 15 years. The saffron party also lost governments to the Congress in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
The defeat, first time in three key states under Narendra Modi’s term as prime minister, hasn’t gone down well with the senior BJP leaders. As reported by Janta Ka Reporter, Union Minister Smriti Irani was recently caught spreading fake news about Rahul Gandhi on his promise to waive off loans for farmers.
