Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets with Jason Roy playing a fine knock of 60 runs in just 42 balls.
Batting first, Rajasthan Royals made 164-5 in 20 overs with skipper Sanju Samson making 82 runs in just 57 balls. His innings included three sixes and seven fours. Yashasvi Jaiswal made 36 in 23 balls.
Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved the target by just losing three wickets and nine balls to spare. Aside from a half-century by Roy, skipper Kane Williamson remained not out at 51.
Samson said after the match, “It was a decent score. The wicket was sticky, and they were bowling well. We could have got 10 or 20 more actually. The last overs was the difference – you can say that.I wanted to keep going, but we kept losing one or two wickets. We got the target which we were aiming for after the time-out. We definitely need to work a lot on our batting and bowling. We need to be at our best each and every ball. We need to lift our standards.”
Williamson said for his part, “Good feeling. We can say the performance was improved. There was clarity in roles too. Good to be on the right side. Want to build on this, want to see the younger players take their opportunity and enjoy the cricket. Last two overs with the ball were critical. Sanju batted outstanding and they were looking to score more but we managed to close them into a par-ish total. And then the partnership with the bat up top. We weathered the storms against the slower bowlers. Roy is an injection of energy. He’s been on the sidelines but was always ready to go. He did what he does, great to see. Fantastic player, great contribution. We want to recover before the next game. Couple of days away, new venue, need to take on CSK, top of the table, tough to beat. But as we know every team in this tournament is good. Hopefully we can play with a smile on our faces.”
Jason Roy was adjudged Man Of The Match.
