Google has paid tribute to the late actress Meena Kumari with a Doodle on the Bollywood legend’s 85th birth anniversary on Wednesday.

The official page of Google Doodle said, “As shown in the doodle, Meena Kumari captivated audiences with her beautiful, expressive eyes.”
Meena Kumari was born in 1933 as Mahjabeen Bano and she started facing the camera and the world of glitz right from the age of four, when she began to be addressed as Baby Meena. Her Bollywood career spanned over three decades during which she acted in more than 90 films.

Her intense acting earned her the title of ‘tragedy queen’ in the industry. Her notable films that still remain popular are Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Pakeezah, Mere Apne, Aarti, Baiju Bawra, Parineeta, Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai, Foot Path, Dil Ek Mandir and Kaajal.

She was married to equally legendary filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, who she tied knot to in 1952. Films critics have often termed Meena Kumari as “historically incomparable” figure who left a lasting impression in the industry. Such was her impact even on other legendary actors that one director was once quoted as saying, “Even Dilip Kumar (the tragedy king) found it difficult to keep his calm in front of her”. Raaj Kumar would often forget his dialogues while working with Meena Kumari on set.”

The legendary actress died in 1972 due to liver cirrhosis.
