Indian Idol judge Vishal Dadlani has said that he was ‘gobsmacked’ to see hundreds of thousands of Hindus gathering in Uttarakhand to attend the Kumbh mela even when the country was facing the brunt of the fresh wave of coronavirus.
Sharing a video of Hindu devotees taking a dip in a river, Vishal wrote, “Gobsmacked. Literally, no words.”
Known for his forthright views, Vishal also shared some of his fans’ tweets highlighting the hypocrisy of India’s lapdog media over the Kumbh gathering. Several usual suspects in the Indian media had broadcast endless debates to vilify the members of Tablighi Jamaat last year for their congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi.
The Tablighi Jamaat and Muslims were condemned by the pro-Hindutva media outlets and their representatives even though the congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz had taken place before India’s officially recognised the COVID-19 pandemic. Members of Tablighi Jamaat were hounded and arrested and charged under draconian laws. It took them months before several high courts in India quashed the charges invoked against them.
The Islamophobic campaign by the Indian media had a catastrophic effect on poor Muslims as they faced attacks from Hindutva bigots, who labelled them super spreaders.

‘Dear Muslims, Tablighi Jamaat committed a crime against humanity. Don’t defend them’

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and India’s lapdog media, also referred to as ‘Godi Media’ faced brutal condemnation as hundreds of thousands of Hindus took part in the Kumbh in Uttarakhand amidst a dangerous spike in COVID-19 cases. Many called how Kejriwal had used his daily press conference to vilify the Muslim community by creating a separate list for the Tablighi Jamaat to highlight their alleged contribution in the spread of the pandemic last year.
