Delhiites danced on Korean tunes in 2-day K-Pop festival


The Korean Cultural Centre, Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange organised the fourth edition of K- POP Festival called, ‘2015 feel Korea with K-POP contest India’ at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi this weekend.

The first day witnessed the Grand Finale of K-Pop India Contest in which contestants from 8 Regions participated, with special entry from Nepal.

K-Pop is a world famous South Korean music festival, comprising all genres of South Korean pop music with pop-dance, pop ballad, electronic, rock, metal, hip-hop, R & B, etc.


The Brooks (song group) and Frozen Crew (dance) from Mizoram became the new K-Pop stars from India. Besides, Revathi Sukumaran (song) from Chennai and Dance Xenos (dance) from Assam won in Silver category.

With over 19 performances during the grand finale, Mizoram’s Frozen Crew emerged as the winner in the Gold category with a trip to Korea, along with an entry to participate in K-Pop world festival in Gangwon this year and a brand new Hyundai car (i10).

While The Brooks was also awarded a trip to Korea, along with a Samsung smartphone and a nomination to K-Pop world festival. As runner-up, Dance Xenos from Mizoram were given a nomination to the world K-Pop festival along with a cash prize of Rs. 100,000 and Revathi Sukumaran (Song) from Chennai won a Samsung Smart Phone.

The bronze winner for the dance category, 3 plus 4 crew, will receive a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 while the bronze winner for the song category, Nikita Hariname, will receive a Samsung smartphone. The winning participant will not only visit Korea but also, get a chance to represent India at the prestigious K-Pop world festival South Korea by the visiting committee.

After the successful show, Kim Kum Pyoung (Director, Korean Cultural Centre India) said, “It was amazing to see the tough competition. And it was an amazing evening featuring 2015 feel Korea K-Pop concert with seven K-Pop Stars. Every year we are getting great response and enthusiasm of the people, but today it was overwhelming, seeing the packed auditorium in Delhi is a positive sign for us and hopefully next time it would be bigger and better.”

On the second day, 6 K-Pop bands made their debut in India as for the first time, Indian audiences got the opportunity to witness six K-Pop famous bands on stage at one time.

The performances were judged by the Korean band ZE:AJ and a special performance by Impact band enthralled the audience with its mesmerizing performance.

The K-Pop Contest involved competitions at three stage, online contest, preliminary round and the grand finale. All these three vibrant rounds were witnessed at Bangalore, Chennai Mumbai, Kolkata, Mizoram, Nepal and New Delhi for a duration of  four and a half months, which started from 17 April till 28 August on two categories, singing and dancing .

K-Pop is all about giving a chance to not only visit Korea but also to meet Hallyu Stars in real, see them perform in their country and be a part of K-Pop world festival 2015.
