There are reports that Urmila may be fielded as the Congress candidate from Mumbai North parliamentary seat in this year’s parliamentary polls. The BJP has fielded Gopal Shetty from here.
In 2014, Shetty had defeated the outgoing Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam by over four lakh votes from here. Nirupam on Tuesday said that he was confident of Urmila’s victory from here in this year’s polls. If 45-year-old Urmila is indeed fielded as the Congress candidate, she will be the second Bollywood star to be fielded from here by the party. In 2004, actor Govinda had defeated the then Union Minister Ram Naik while contesting the polls as a Congress candidate.
