In an embarrassing development, two BJP lawmakers were engaged in an ugly fight after the saffron party’s MP Sharad Tripathi thrashed an MLA from his own party, Rakesh Singh, with his shoe in public. This was after Tripathi and Singh argued over whose name should be displayed on a foundation stone for a project in their constituency.
In the video, both Tripathi and Singh are seen engaged in a heated discussion. At one point, Trpathi is heard angrily telling Singh, “I am the MP”. This prompted a quick response from Singh with equal rage, “I am the local MLA”.
Tripathi then went on to say, “I’ve produced many MLAs like you.” This angered Singh even more, who pointed to his shoe and hinted that he would hit him with his footwear.
Tripathi soon took off his shoe and began to hit the MLA repeatedly. Singh too retaliated until a cop intervened. Moments later, supporters of Singh gathered outside the office of the District Magistrate in Sant Kabir Nagar to avenge the physical assault on their leader.
Tripathi is believed to have locked himself inside the DM office.
The incident took place at the District Action Plan Committee at the Collectorate office, where many high-ranking officials were present.
Meanwhile, the news has become a topic of intense discussion on social media.
