Police in Kolkata have arrested the son of BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly after his black sedan crashed into a wall in South Kolkata. 20-year-old was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place. He was alone in the car at the time of the accident.

Reacting to her son’s arrest, Roopa Ganguly tweeted stating that she did not seek any favours for her adding that ‘law should take its own course.’ She wrote, “My son has met with an accident near MY RESIDENCE. I called police to tke care of it with all legal implications. No favours/ politics plz.” Ganguly also tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to write, ” I love my son and will tk cr of him BUT LAW SHOULD TAKE ITS OWN COURSE. Neitehr do I commit any wrong nor do I tolerate anything wrong. @narendramodiI am not for sale.”

Her subsequent tweet read, “”How funny, I spoke to him in the afternoon, discussed about his lunch and other basic things at 3pm. Now I get to hear such stupid comments by the media. He just left this morning by 7.50 flight. What sort of political rubbish is this.”

Local councillor Archana Sengupta told Hindustan Times that it was a sheer good luck that no lives were lost. “There is a bustee close to the accident spot and children play there. Locals told me that two children were playing and a few youths were chatting close by when the car crashed into the wall,” Sengupta said.

BJP MP’s son will be produced in a local court on Friday.
