Actor Ranvir Shorey calls out NDTV for fake news about his health; TV channel apologises, corrects headline

Bollywood actor Ranvir Shorey on Tuesday called NDTV for a fake story about his health and asked the TV channel to correct the ‘misleading headline.’ Faced with embarrassment, NDTV immediately issued an apology and indeed corrected the headline.

In its original story, NDTV had reported, “Actor Ranvir Shorey Tests Positive For COVID-19 Again.”

However, Ranvir explained that there was no truth in the story. He wrote, “My son Haroon and I were on holiday in #Goa, and during the routine RT-PCR testing for the flight back to Mumbai, he has turned out to be #Covid positive. We are both completely asymptomatic and have immediately quarantined until further investigations. The wave is real. #India.”

In one of his subsequent tweets, the actor wrote, “Dear @ndtv, I have not tested positive, YET. I am fully vaccinated. My son has tested positive, as sadly there are STILL no vaccines for 10 year olds. Please correct this misleading headline, and help avoid unnecessary panic by anxious people.

Ranvir’s tweet evoked angry reactions from his fans and the known critics of NDTV. One wrote, “It’s OK @RanvirShorey, @ndtv hardly being viewed/read by people..No threat of “Raita”..I wish it’s false positive case of ur son.” Another commented, “Misleading headlines n creating panic in people is nothing surprising n new for NDTV.”

Faced with widespread criticism, NDTV issued an apology and promised to correct the story. It tweeted, “We are correcting the story. We apologise for the mistake.”

Ranvir said that he was ‘planning a retest’ for his son today and also testing me, though I am vaccinated.’
