Actor Prakash Raj announces entry into electoral politics, gets support from fans

Actor Prakash Raj has announced his intention to fight Lok Sabha polls, scheduled to be held this year, as an independent candidate. He made the announcement on Twitter on Tuesday.

The popular actor tweeted, “HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE..a new beginning .. more responsibility.. with UR support I will be contesting in the coming parliament elections as an INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE. Details of the constituency soon. Ab ki baar Janatha ki SARKAR #citizensvoice #justasking in parliament too..”

Raj had extensively campaigned against the BJP in the last year’s Karnataka assembly polls. He’s been vocal against the right-wing ideology particularly after the suspected Hindutva terrorists killed journalist Gauri Lankesh, his close friend.

His announcement was met with an instant approval from his fans on social media. One fan wrote, “This is wonderful news, the first great news of 2019. All the best and have a great 2019.” “Great to see a you a member of parliament ……wish you a good luck,” commented another fan.

Raj had recently told at an event in Karnataka that he was not receiving any work offer in Bollywood after he started criticising Prime Minister Modi. “I am being targeted after I raised my voice and started asking questions. Bollywood has virtually stopped offering me jobs.”

Raj had played prominent roles in several Bollywood blockbusters including Singham and Salman Khan-starrer Wanted.
