Angered by flawed results, DU students to hold protests outside Smriti Irani’s office on Thursday

Hundreds of Delhi University students would be holding protests outside the office of Union HRD Minister, Smriti Irani on Thursday.

The students of BA (Hons.) English in Delhi University’s Shivaji College are aggrieved about their sixth semester results in which all students except three have been failed.

The results declared for the interdisciplinary subject – Sociology in Contemporary India shows ER (Essential Repeat). The students claim that “this was not a subjective case since all students of the same stream were given an ER with just three of them passing with a mere 30.

The students have told www.jantakareporter.com that the authorities were ‘playing silly buggers’ by passing the buck to each other.

Frustrated by the continuous apathy from the DU officials, the students resorted to holding overnight protests earlier this week (see photos).

Bismee Maina, is one such student, who has yet to get her results. She said that they were assured by Malay Nirav, the joint Dean and the media coordinator for DU, that their results will be revised by Monday so that they can seek admissions.

“But he (Nirav) has performed a vanishing act. This prompted us to hold the night protest within the campus. Our future is at stake here and nobody seems to be bothered,” she told www.jantakareporter.com.

Though the choice of revaluation and re-checking exists in the university but the students argue that such a “massive failure” of students indicates some error on the part of those responsible for checking.
