Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah on Saturday reacted to the comments made by former Pakistani skipper Waqar Younis on the former’s delivery, which dismissed Shadab Khan during the India-Pakistan match in Ahmedabad.
Batting first, Pakistan were bowled out for 191 runs. India achieved the target by losing just three wickets and more than 19 overs to spare. Bumrah was declared Player Of The Match for his spell of 2-19.
Reacting to his delivery that dismissed Khan, Bumrah said after the match, “There was reverse swing. It was not a leg cutter. It was an outswinger with a reverse swing that I was looking to bowl. One of those occasions when the white ball was reverse swinging. So yeah, very happy with that and very happy with the result.”
Sanjay Manjrekar said that Waqar Younis had said that Bumrah’s delivery was a reverse swing with a cutter in the commentary box. To which, the Indian fast bowler said, “I’ve seen him (Waqar) and Wasim Akram bowling some magical deliveries as a youngster. So yeah, If he’s praising me, then it’s a good praise for me.”
Waqar Younis, who invented the art of reverse swing in cricket, is in as an official commentator.
Bumrah’s comments for Younis and Akram shows the mutual admiration cricketers from both countries have for each other.
