World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma’s scintillating knock guides India to win Afghanistan by 8 wickets

Rohit Sharma’s electric century knock on Wednesday helped India defeat Afghanistan by 8 wickets with 15 overs to spare in the World Cup tie.

Batting first, Afghanistan could only manage 272-8 in 50 overs. Skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi was the top scorer with an impressive knock of 80 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah picked up four wickets for India.

India achieved the target by losing just two wickets and 15 overs to spare. Rohit Sharma was the top scorer with a knock of 131 from 84 balls. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten at 55. Ishan Kishan contributed with a quickfire 47.

With today’s win, India has jumped to second in the points table. Top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals in the end.

Sharma was adjudged Player Of The Match for his century knock. His century was the fastest in a World Cup by an India, beating the previous record of Kapil Dev.
