Indian shuttler PV Sindhu on Sunday won her maiden Singapore Open title when she defeated China’s Wang Zhi Yi 21-9, 11-21, 21-15. The double-Olympic medallist won her first game comfortably but lost her momentum in the second game, losing 11-21. However, she regained her composure in the final game and sealed the match amidst loud cheers from the crowd.
Earlier the top Indian shuttler had defeated Japan’s Saena Kawakami 21-15 21-7 on Saturday in a one-sided match lasting just a little over 30 minutes. Sindhu had defeated Han Yue of China 17-21 21-11 21-19 in her quarter-final match on Friday.

The maiden victory at the Singapore Open by Sindhu comes just days before she travels to Birmingham in England to represent India in the Commonwealth Games. Her victory in Singapore has brightened India’s medal prospects in the Commonwealth Games.
