Bieber took to Instagram to make the announcement through a video message. Sharing the video, Bieber wrote, “IMPORTANT PLEASE WATCH. I love you guys and keep me in your prayers.”

The announcement came days after the Canadian singer was forced to cancel dates in North America.

Addressing his fans, the 28-year-old singer said that half of his face had been paralyzed. “Obviously, as you can probably see from my face, I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt and it is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves, and has caused my face to have paralysis,” he said.

He continued, “As you can see this eye is not blinking, I can’t smile on this side of my face. It’s pretty serious, as you can see, I wish this wasn’t the case.”

The singing sensation said that his body is ‘telling’ him to ‘slow down.’

He said, “This is pretty serious, as you can see. I wish this wasn’t the case, but, obviously, my body’s telling me I’ve got to slow down.

“I hope you guys understand. I’ll be using this time to just rest and relax and get back to a hundred percent so that I can do what I was born to do.”

Bieber said that he was aware of those frustrated by his cancellation of recent dates, adding that he was simply ‘physically’ not capable of ‘doing that.’

According to British health experts, only less than half patients are likely to completely recover from Ramsay Hunt syndrome. This may not go down well with Bieber fans, who were eagerly waiting for his upcoming tour.
