Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday took a brutal potshot at senior Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat for tweets implying that he was contemplating retirement from politics.
In a series of tweets, Rawat had said that it was time for him to rest. Rawat had written, “Isn’t it a strange thing? Have to swim across the sea of the electoral battle, but the organisational structure instead of lending a helping hand is obstructing and playing a negative role at most places.”
His subsequent tweet gave an impression that all was not well between him and the Congress leadership ahead of crucial assembly polls. Rawat wrote, “The power has left several crocodiles in the sea and I’m expected to swim at their command. Their representatives have tied my hands and feet. Now, a feeling often comes to my mind. Have had enough of politics. It is time to take a rest!”
Taking a potshot at Rawat’s cryptic tweets, Amarinder Singh wrote, “You reap what you sow! All the best for your future endeavours (if there are any) @harishrawatcmuk ji.”
Rawat was the Congress in-charge for Punjab when Navjot Singh Sidhu was appointed to head the state unit of the party. The development prompted Singh to resign from the chief minister’s post and form a new party. Amarinder Singh has now joined hands with the BJP to fight the next year’s assembly polls in Punjab. As for Rawat, he was eyeing to dislodge the BJP out of power in the upcoming assembly polls in Uttarakhand. But, his latest tweets may prove cause damage to the Congress’ electoral chances in the hilly state of India.
