Rajasthan Royals have confirmed the signing of New Zealand’s wicketkeeper-batsman Glenn Phillips as the replacement of England’s Jos Buttler for the remainder of the IPL, which is scheduled to be played in the UAE.

Sharing a photo of Phillips, Rajasthan Royals tweeted, “Here we go confirmed! ???? See you soon in Pink, Glenn.” “The Kiwi wicketkeeper-batter is the Royals’ first replacement player signing for the remainder of #IPL2021,” the IPL team from Rajasthan added.

Rajasthan Royals are also likely to miss the services of England fast bowler Jofra Archer and all-rounder Ben Stokes. While Archer is out of action due to injury, his England teammates Stokes has taken a break from the game for mental health reasons. They have not been a part of the current England squad against the home Test series against India.

As for Phillips, he’s currently with Barbados Royals in the CPL and has represented New Zealand in 25 T20 Internationals. He has also taken part in the CPL and played in Vitality Blast the Hundred in England.

This year’s IPL had to be suspended midway through the competition after the coronavirus pandemic began to wreak havoc in India. The BCCI later decide to stage the second half of the league in the UAE.
