Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday took to social media to write an emotional note about sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Sharing a series of photos of himself with Priyanka including an unseen photo from his childhood, the Congress MP from Waynad wrote, “I have a special place in my life for the affection and support extended to me by my sister. We are each other’s friends and protectors. Greetings to you all on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan today.”

Rahul Gandhi has chosen to stay away from Twitter after the microblogging site locked his account for sharing the video of the parents of a 9-year-old Dalit girl, who was raped and murdered by a Hindu priest in the heart of Delhi.

Although Twitter has now restored his account by removing the tweet carrying the rape victim’s parents, the Congress leader has continued to avoid using the social media platform to communicate with his followers. He’s been fairly active on Instagram and Facebook. His adorable note for Priyanka too was shared on Facebook and its-owned platform, Instagram.

Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival where a sister ties a band around her brother’s wrist seeking her protection from him. The brother, in return, is expected to take a pledge to protect his sister and give her a gift on the occasion.
