“Clearly out of syllabus for Navika Kumar”: Controversial Times Now executive faces social media ridicule after Omar Abdullah leaves her red-faced in interview

Times Now’s Navika Kumar is facing widespread ridicule on social media after netizens began to fervently share a clip of her recent interview with former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Left visibly red-faced by sharp replies from Abdullah during the interview, Kumar soon became a target of incessant trolling on the microblogging site Twitter.

Kumar had asked Abdullah about the development in Jammu and Kashmir even though his family along with the Muftis had ruled the region for the longest period of time. Abdullah sarcastically said that he was willing to concede that previous governments headed by him or his family did not work towards the development of Kashmir. He, however, asked Times Now representative to list out the development works carried out by the BJP government in the last two years.

Navika Kumar asked, “So, you want 73 years to be undone in two?”

Abdullah replied, “Make a start.”

“The start hasn’t begun. You can’t see it?” Kumar asked in a desperate defence of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.

This was enough for Abdullah to launch a tirade, which came as a shock for Navika Kumar, who wasn’t expecting the National Conference leader to be so prepared with his numbers.

Abdullah said, “Show me one new investment that has come. Show me one positive development that has come. Everything that’s being inaugurated right now, from roads to tunnel to power houses to hospitals to schools to colleges to universities, were all given in the previous governments.”

Abdullah reminded Kumar that it was Ghulam Nabi Azad as the health minister, who had given ‘medical colleges’ to the valley. “Dr. Manmohan Singh gave central universities. Dr. Manmohan Singh gave the four-lane highways between Jammu and Srinagar. The tunnel in Banihal, the tunnel in Nashri were started when Dr. Manmoahn Singh was the prime minister,” Abdullah added.

Eagle-eyed netizens were quick to detect the helplessness coupled with embarrassment on Kumar’s face as Abdullah continued with his feisty response. Soon, the video clip of that interview became viral as netizens took potshots at Navika Kumar, who’s often have to face criticism for her alleged biases in favour of the BJP.

Last month, Kumar had to face the wrath of social media users after Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien was seen leaving her dumbfounded with his sharp replies.
