The AICC also announced the names of four working presidents. They are Sangat Singh Gilzian, Sukhwinder Singh Danny, Pawan Goel and Kuljit Singh Nagra.

The statement by the AICC said, “Hon’ble Congress President has appointed Shri Navjot Singh Sidhu as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect.”

Sidhu has been attacking Amarinder Singh in the recent past and had even called him a liar. The state goes to polls in February next year and the Congress simply could not afford infighting of this magnitude at this point.

Sidhu had held meetings with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in the recent past. This had given rise to speculations that the cricketer-turned-politician enjoyed the blessings of the Gandhi family.
