BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for recognising the performance of Team India in the just-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Ganguly expressed his ‘gratitude’ to the prime minister immediately after being discharged from the hospital after having undergone a second heart operation within a month.

Modi, in his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat, had praised the Indian cricket team’s performance on the Australian tour and termed it inspirational. He had said, “This month, there has been very good news from the cricket pitch too. Our cricket team, after initial setbacks made a grand comeback, winning the series in Australia. The hard work and teamwork of our players is inspirational.”

Reacting to Modi’s address, Ganguly wrote on Twitter, “Sincere thanks and gratitude to Honourable Prime minister for recognising the performance of the Indian cricket team in australia.”

India had defeated Australia 2-1 in the Test series even without the services of several senior players due to injuries. They included KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav among others.

Meanwhile, Ganguly has returned hom after being discharged from a Kolkata hospital where he underwent a second heart operation in less than a month. During his second heart surgery, two more stents were inserted to open up his clogged arteries.
